Meaningful Tourism: Your chance to help Los Cabos

Did you know Solmar Hotels & Resorts has founded an association to create a positive impact within the Los Cabos community? Yes, Solmar Foundation has strived for 13 years now bringing a hand to those who need it most in our beautiful destination. Under the premise “A tourist destination is the reflect of its community”, many efforts have been held in order to support many laudable projects in Los Cabos, such as Corazón de Niño which donates heart surgeries for children with heart diseases; Red Autismo, a civil association that help children with autism; Amigos de los Niños that brings quality health care in Los Cabos to children up to the age of 18 who have no other means of receiving it, just to name a few.

Now, Solmar Foundation together with United Way Mexico Foundation, International Community Foundation and Club de niños y niñas (Boys and Girls Club) de Baja California Sur, have joined forces in order to guarantee the children’s universal right to play. For this matter, they have inaugurated a “Ludoteca” or playroom that seeks to provide a joyful space for the kids’ and adolescents’ integral development.

Psychomotricity, language disorders, sociability, cognitive and emotional abilities, specific knowledge, creativity and first and foremost, divertissement are part of the thorough program led by specialists at the Ludoteca.

A little bit of history

Solmar Foundation was founded in 2011, but the history goes back to 1955, when Luis Bulnes Molleda, founder of Solmar Hotels & Resorts, was appointed General Manager of the only tuna packing company in Mexico, based in Los Cabos. Even when this destination is classified among the best in the world, 60% of its population lives in poverty and with limited access to education and health services, as well as job opportunities. Don Luis —as he was respectfully known— was an empathic person who firmly believed that a destination is a reflection of its inhabitants: if they live a quality life, it directly impacts the well-being and tourist safety of the destination. So he looked for a way to help the community and founded the fire department and the nursing home.
