Born in Mexico City, José arrived in Los Cabos in 1994, where he began to work in the wine industry before deciding to return to Mexico City to pursue a sommelier diploma at the University of Tepeyac, in conjunction with the Mexican Association of Sommeliers in 1999. Being the third generation of Mexican Sommeliers, he was accredited five years ago as a Certified Sommelier in The Court of Master Sommeliers.

With over twenty years in the wine industry, and in addition to being a sommelier in different corporations such as Esperanza Resort, Villa Group, AM Resorts, Vinoteca, The Wine Co., Baja Wines, and others, José has participated as a judge at the international Tierra del Vino competition taking place in Ensenada, as well as serving as an exhibitor sommelier at various wine festivals in different states of Mexico.

José Martínez is a member of the Mexican Association of Sommeliers and ONSOM.

He currently holds the position of Corporate Sommelier at Solmar Group and oversees the selection and management of wine for all the group’s hotels.
